The unprecedented reality of the last couple of months has hit every one hard, the world over. No one saw it coming, hence there were no preparations. Needless to say, education as we know it has been tremendously affected. While some elite children are able to adopt online learning systems, children from disadvantaged homes and communities do not have that privilege.
Schools are currently closed in Nigeria, and when they do open, which is looming, how can these children adapt to staying safe in public spaces? This is of particular concern for children in public schools.
Maintaining good hygiene is key and this needs to be emphasized in public schools, disadvantaged homes and communities. It is important that they are properly informed and enlightened.
Ever before Covid-19, we have taken oral health and hygiene as crucial to the development of girls, thus our health experts have dedicated time to inform and educate our girls about achieving and maintaining good hygiene. We continue in the effort to ensure our girls and communities stay healthy, educated and alive.
In spite of the difficulties of coming together and the need for social distancing, we are glad to have provided monetary and feeding support to over a 100 families, including those of our girls and people from disadvantaged communities, to relieve some of the hardships this pandemic has brought.
We look ahead to brighter days and are working tirelessly towards adjusting to current realities and creating better structures for mentoring and impacting girls in Nigeria and across Africa.
Keeping hope alive is key and so is support and togetherness.
