The First Outing of Among the Stars - The Story of a Girl Child

November 25th, 2020 began like every other day, but not for us. The sun didn’t shine brighter, but in our hearts it did. A beautiful day, filled with hopes and expectations. It was the day Among the Stars would finally be presented to an audience outside the crew and our bellies were full of butterflies. Our tireless work for one year from the day of principal photography, was eventually to be presented.

It was an exclusive event with about 30 guests in attendance. They began to trickle in at exactly 4pm to grace the green carpet. Some of the guests in attendance include Prof and Mrs Obafemi, Dr Odedina, Dr Olayiwola, and Kwara State Commissioner for Works, Engr Rotimi Iliasu among others.

The glitz and glamour of the green carpet with guests dressed in a touch of Africa was all the colour we needed to set the tone for greatness that was to unfold. The screening started at exactly 5pm, and at the end of it, every form of anxiety we had earlier nursed had completely vanished. The experience of watching the audience take in and react to the film with all sorts of emotions ranging from laughter, hope, tears and fear was all the confirmation we needed that all the tireless work and sleepless nights had yielded positively.

When the idea of ‘Among the Stars’ was conceived, it was with the objective of beaming light on the reality on the challenges that a good number of girls experience, which is unfortunately, rarely told. The story was to sensitize society about real life experiences that should be addressed, rather than swept under the carpet. That’s the story of ‘Among the Stars’
