Women Breaking Records- Lessons from Hilda Baci.

In a world where dreams sparkle with possibilities, women rise as architects of incredible accomplishments and conquerors of daunting challenges.

Hilda Baci

One such remarkable woman is 27-year-old Hilda Baci (Hilda Bassey), a beacon of inspiration for young girls and women. On Friday, May 11th, 2023, Hilda set out on what would become a remarkable accomplishment of cooking non-stop for 100 hours. After four days, she completed the culinary marathon to set the record for the longest cooking session by an individual.

There are many lessons to be learnt from this challenge, key among them is the importance of dreaming big and not giving up, even when things get tough— especially when things get tough. It is a reminder to keep going and stay committed, no matter the obstacles.

Hilda pushed herself beyond limits, demonstrating that anyone can exceed their expectations. Her story teaches confidence, it shows the power of resilience, passion, and unwavering determination. It ignites everyone’s imagination and serves as a reminder that there’s nothing we cannot achieve if we set our minds to it.

“I just knew I had to do something that is basically out of the ordinary to put myself on the map, to put Nigeria on the map, to put young African women on the map”, she revealed in an interview with BBC Africa. Her journey was not without obstacles. Fatigue crept in, attempting to steal the spotlight, but she refused to let it dim her spirit.

She almost gave up on the first day, but after surpassing the previous record of 87 hours and 45 mins, she decided to aim for 100 hours. In her own words, “The first day was the most difficult. I was ready to give up 6 hours in. I feel like a miracle happened and somehow, I got to this. The support has been incredible,” she said.

She stayed committed, showcasing her talent and unwavering belief in herself.

Her story is similar to that of other incredible women throughout history, such as Marie Curie, who defied expectations and won a Nobel Prize in science, or Amelia Earhart, the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. These women inspire everyone—young and old to dream big and break free from limitations.

This is a reminder that challenges are not roadblocks, but opportunities for growth and self-discovery. It's important to surround yourself with positive role models and seek guidance from mentors who can support and guide you. By embracing your passions and refusing to let society define your limits, like Hilda, you can make your own mark on the world. Dream boldly, believe in yourself, and let your passion guide you toward greatness.
